Smoke in the High Country

We hiked along the Grandview Trail this morning, noticing with dismay the smoky conditions caused by the Whitewater-Baldy fire in the Gila National Forest, the biggest fire in New Mexico state history.  In the image at left, above the white gypsum sands on the horizon, the viewer should be able to see the San Andres Mountains.  They're obscured by smoky air.

Kali and I just left Ft. Collins, CO, where a fire in the hills west of town went from 2 acres at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning to 8,000 acres by 6 p.m.!

Yikes, Scott. It's gotten even worse since. And the Little Bear fire near Ruidoso, N.M. is now at 26,000 acres and 0% containment. It's just four miles from the town.
