Whirlwind Trip

A quick hike along the Grand View Trail
I met with the tree man just after first light; he agreed to do the tree removal.  After he left I watched Becca and Cowboy play for about fifteen minutes.  Then Becca and I left for a hike on the Grand View Trail.  We left from there for Las Cruces.  I had to get back because Dr. K and I are attending the wedding of one of her colleagues this afternoon.  Whew!  What a trip.  The last image is of a sign I saw on a property in High Rolls; it made laugh.
The ramada looks perilously perched, but it's solid

On the alert for critters

We saw this beauty just off the trail on our way back

A common sentiment in the American West

Is this tree work going to set you back significantly?

It's going to cost us several thousand bucks, Scott, but less than half of what we'd pay the company this young man works for. He and a helper are going to do the work on weekends, and they're going use a chipper rather than trying to cart all the dead wood out of there. It's going to be expensive, yes, but the amount of work to be done is really rather staggering. It's got to be done, though, for several reasons: fire hazard first, and to protect the other pinyons growing on the property. The number of trees that have died off is stunning. When we bought the property (about four years ago) the trees were healthy, and we could never have imagined the damage done by pinyon needle scale and bark beetles.

Can the trees be sprayed routinely to prevent the death from the scale and beetles? As you may remember, I'm having our trees in Colorado sprayed to prevent just such a problem.
