Cactus Hunt

Scene in B&W
This morning the Heelers and I made a special trip back to the cactus I photographed yesterday because I wanted to see its flower in full display.  I was out of luck in that the blossom hadn't fully opened, requiring, I'm afraid, a revisit tomorrow morning.

I think I've properly ID'd the plant as Green Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus, though it looks somewhat like the Robust Hedgehog Cactus; the latter's range, however, extends only into a small area of southwest New Mexico.

Willow, Frio and I had a good trek this morning, though a bit shorter than yesterday's hike.  We were fine with the length, though, because it was feeling quite toasty out there by the time we finished up.

I think it's Green Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus

I can see why it's called a Green Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus--it really looks like a greenish strawberry. What a discovery this is. I love the color of the blossom.
