Common Nighthawk camouflage |
Unfortunately, our (Dr. K, Becca and Packrat) hike this morning was partially ruined by some guy who was firing a semi-automatic weapon in the outback behind the mountain. After hearing news reports this morning about the seventeen-year-old boy who had intricate plans to blow up his high school in Oregon we were feeling particularly down on our fellow human beings. It doesn't make you feel more confident then to hear some yahoo blasting away out in the desert. Makes me wish sometimes that I could live in the wilderness away from Homo sapiens sapiens.

Once there was some peace and quiet it was a nice hike.
OK--enough with the nighthawk images! You're doing it just to make me feel bad! (Just kidding, of course; keep 'em coming.)
Here, we get skeet shooting on Sunday afternoons at the local country club about 1/2-mile away. The sound reverberates throughout the valley and really irritates some of my neighbors, but I don't even notice it any longer and at least it's not potentially fatal or destructive (unless you're a clay pigeon).
Scott:
At least that skeet shooting is an organized activity, not like the idiots taking potshots out in the desert.
