Ocotillos on the western slope of Tortugas Mountain |
Becca and I hit the trail earlier than usual this morning to avoid the broiling heat. If there had been even the slightest breath of wind we would have succeeded in our strategy. But no such luck. As a result, it felt pretty uncomfortable out there. We're headed for the high 90s again with high humidity and high dewpoints. These are the dog days of summer even Becca doesn't like.

We saw a few other hikers and bikers in the distance, but we didn't run into anybody.

It's forecast to be hot (90 degrees) and humid today (Tuesday) and tomorrow here, with relief in the form of thunderstorms on Thursday. We've had a really nice, below normal August so far, so I can't complain about a few uncomfortable days--but I will avoid outdoor exertion, especially with a Code Orange air pollution alert in effect.
That air pollution alert doesn't sound too good, Scott, but it must be heaven to experience a cool August there. When we first moved to El Paso in the early 90s the Asarco smelter was running full blast, so we sucked in a lot of bad air in those days.
