The Latter Ladder-Backed Woodpecker

Sky at start
An early start for the four of us this morning as we hoped to beat the heat and the effects of high humidity.  It was 73F with 61% humidity when we set off from the dirt pullout near Tellbrook, and it was 80F when we got back to the CR-V.  All in all, not too bad.

What was bad had to do with the number of ants out and about after yesterday's rain; they were everywhere, discouraging us from stopping too long in Second Arroyo.  I did take enough time to photograph a Ladder-backed Woodpecker who was working on several different Soaptree Yucca stalks while we were there.

All four of us were eager to get back into the shelter of our waiting vehicle and to make the short drive home in air-conditioned comfort.
