Following Deer and Elk Trails

Desert Sumac at 6800 feet?
Willow, Frio, Dr. K and I did a morning hike in the forest around our property, following deer and elk trails we've taken a few times previously.  Along the way we spotted a few piles of deer scat, but abundant deposits of scat from elk.

Just as were were about to explore an area we'd not trekked in before both dogs went on high alert, so we decided to turn around and head back to the cabin.  Several minutes later we saw a large coyote cross through our property; incredibly fit he looked as if he wasn't missing many meals.

Weather-wise it's very pleasant up here now, although it was windy and cold before sunup.  We're supposed to hit 62F today with a low of 35F.

I really like the two photos of the same tree. This hike was an excellent way to start the day.
