Tableland along Tortugas's west side |
Becca and I did a slightly longer hike along the foothills trail on the western slope of Tortugas (Tortoise) Mountain. The weather was perfect. But just as we returned to the Sunset Parking Area the wind began to pick up big time. In fact, Greg--who was just getting out of his Jeep Liberty--said, "Where'd the wind come from?" By the time Becca and I finished gasing up the RAV4 at the Pic Quik on the corner of Telshor and Missouri and mailed a letter at the PanAm Center across from NMSU the wind was raging. Glad we weren't out in it.

The tips of those ocotillo buds look pretty sharp--I'll have to take a closer look one day.
