| Just starting off from the upper flatland |
With the exception of several Black-tailed Jackrabbits we saw nobody else trekking around out there. One desert denizen we spotted--an individual I never tire of seeing--was the Pyrrhuloxia (Desert Cardinal) pictured below. Whenever I hear its distinctive call I get my camera ready in case I'm lucky enough to photograph one.
We had a great time exploring the new arroyo today, and look for other opportunities to do so in the near future.

What beautiful markings on the Desert Cardinal. I love the photo of Frio yawning (or should I say laughing).
