Barrel Blossoms

Ocotillos and a three-headed Barrel Cactus
Hot, hot, hot out there for our morning trek today.  We're headed for a high of 105F.  Fortunately we were able to get in a near-normal hike (cut it a bit short to avoid a guy and his grandson[?] who were exploring with three or four loose dogs).

As you can see from the images here the Fishhook Barrel Cacti are beginning to bloom; several of these images were taken of specimens in our neighborhood close to home.

Barrel Cacti are among the heartiest of plants here in our Chihuahuan Desert.
