Family Unit


On the way home from a hike around Tortugas Mountain this morning we had to brake for a family of quail crossing the road. The photo at left shows a small family of quail just leaving the watering hole here at COC--Papa at left, Mama at right, and five chicks leading the way. Both male and female quail are involved in caring for and protecting the young.
Bunnies, on the other hand--although frequently observed playing with one another--often adopt the role of loner.
