Soledad Canyon II

About twenty feet away, across a large arroyo, we noticed that this Sotol (aka Desert Spoon) had sent up its stalk and was beginning to bloom. When in complete flower the Sotol attracts hummingbirds and numerous bees.
Whenever we see this rock formation we call it “Casita Grande” (Sp. = Little Big House) after Casa Grande, the huge rock formation in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park.
Although it was a hot morning, Dr. K, Research Associate Becca and I enjoyed the solitude and beauty of this spectacular Organ Mountain canyon.
