What Happened to the Breeze?

Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus starting to bloom
Things are heating up and getting dry in the northern Chihuahuan Desert, and this morning while Becca and I slogged through a hot, arid land there was no breeze to ameliorate the heat.  Without a whisper of wind no evaporative cooling can occur, and I was perspiring quite a bit by the time we finished our trek.  Becca was panting substantially, though I always make sure she takes as many shade breaks as she wants, and I always give her plenty of water to stay hydrated.  Nevertheless, we both suffered a bit this morning.  It was worth it, though.

Nice photo of the insect in the flycatcher's beak. I love the incredibly intense color of the strawberry pitaya.
