Becca, Dr. K and I spent much of yesterday hiking the rugged Dog Canyon Trail in the Sacramento Mountains. The hike is a real ass-kicker: straight up from the desert floor to the first "bench," then fairly level for about a mile, then straight up to the second "bench" before levelling off for a half mile until descending for a quater of a mile to an old cowboy line shack. It's a spectacular hike, though, six miles round trip even though it feels like ten. The creek near the line shack ruins was running beneath the ice, and the small waterfall was frozen solid. We had lunch there before heading back. Needless to say, two humans had very stiff and sore bodies the next day. One canine body was as limber as always.
