Rugged boulders on the east side of Tortugas Mountain |
Religious pilgrims making a trek to the top of Tortugas (Tortoise) Mountain this morning had completely crowded the western side of the area, so we went to the Monte Viste side and hiked in a remote section. The weather was beautiful, already in the 50s (F). We're heading for 67 F today.
We saw nobody on our outing, but the constant sound of distant shotgun retorts filled the air. That's what you have to put up with during dove-hunting season, which lasts until the end of this month. Despite the minor annoyance, we enjoyed ourselves.

I hope those dove hunters stay clear of hikers.
