Inclement Weather

First 3:  views from the trailhead
This morning's hike was canceled due to nasty weather.  It remains to be seen whether things will clear up enough to take the Heelers on a short outing.

I did take both Frio and Willow up and down the arroyo that runs through our property so they could do their business.

Afterward I drove Frio in the Jeep up to the trailhead where we do our usual trek to see if I could get some decent photos of the mountains.  I expected them to be more snow covered.

No, Frio is not driving the Jeep

Quick Exit

First 3:  view of the Sacramentos from our drive
When we checked our weather apps this morning and saw the storm warning for later on Thursday we decided to make tracks for the lower desert.

Before we left we took the Heelers on a short outing in order for them to do their business.  Afterwards we packed up, left the cabin and headed home.

Another Forest Adventure

Early morning view from the living room
It was another adventure in the forest around our place for Dr. K, Willow, Frio and me.  We did a lot of steep climbing and steep descending which is very hard on old knees.

We had a good time nonetheless, primarily because the weather was quite nice.  At first it seemed the wind might be a problem, but the trees shielded us nicely.

We got a lot of good exercise this morning, and after lunch I played ball with Frio in the front yard.  He never gets enough of the game.

In the Mountains

Our driveway
We got up to the cabin just after noon yesterday, and this morning we did our first foray into the forest around our property.  We pretty much hiked straight up the steep hill behind our place, and then we hiked straight down.

After lunch today we went out into the yard, and, while Dr. K and Willow took it easy, I played with Mr. Frio who is always ready to play ball.  Yesterday when I was playing ball with him up near the pumphouse neighbor Coop showed up, and as soon as Frio spotted him he chased Coop back to his own property.  Unfortunately Frio took his sweet ass time returning and I had to make it clear to him that I didn't approve.  I did this by wagging my finger at him and scowling, messages he seems to understand perfectly.

It was 23.5F when we got up this morning, and it's been slightly cold all day; 48F now, however.

Hawk Again

Somebody's been sampling the Barrel Cactus fruit
I took Willow and Frio out by myself this morning while Dr. K did some shopping.  We did our normal route under somewhat unpleasant weather conditions.  It was cloudy and overcast the entire time, and I never took my gloves off except to treat the Heelers, which I did often.

They were very well behaved today, pretty much staying close to me--either just ahead or behind--the entire way.  This colder weather has made them a bit spunkier, but they controlled themselves admirably.

Drove over to our local Circle K on the way home to gas up the CR-V.

Cold at Start

A third of the way down LDR-A arroyo
35F at the beginning of our trek today, though it didn't feel too cold because of the bright sunshine; and the light breeze wasn't a factor.

We did our usual trek this morning, with Frio and Willow loose a good bit of the time.  Twice I had to put Frio back on lead because he went running through the desert searching for something to chase.  He ended up barking aggressively at an old rusty bucket he chanced upon, feeling quite foolish when he recognized his mistake.

As a former teacher I feel confident in giving them a grade of C+ for their behavior today.
