Small Fishhook Barrel Cactus

Dr. K, Willow, Frio and I did our usual hike this morning on a cool start to the day: 64F with a fairly steady wind. The strong sunshine evened things out, though.
Surprised to find two female Black-chinned Hummingbirds at the Ocotillos where flowers are still blooming. I couldn't get an image of either sampling nectar, however, because whenever one would pause for a sip the other would chase it off. A few days ago they'd reached some kind of detente, but they were battling over precious resources again.
When we were descending LDR-A at the beginning of the trek we spotted the Basset people bushwhacking westward through the desert at a great distance from our little entourage.

I really like all three photos of the Hummers on the Ocotillo branch.
