Cooling Off


It's been hot here in the Chihuahuan Desert; the last three days have been 100+ degrees. When it's this hot, the animals here on the grounds at COC try to find ways to cool off. Sometimes they just sit for hours in the shade. These two cottontails were looking for something to nibble on in the shadow of the Big House.
The two Gambel's Quail--male (left) and female (right)--sat back to back in one of the irrigation canals, where the earth is slightly cooler.
