Bagging Tortugas

We hadn't planned on hiking to the top of Tortugas this morning, but we ended up doing it nonetheless. We parked midway between the west and east parking lots and began our ascent from the saddle on the west side. The trail that wraps around the north side of the mountain passes through a veritable grassland.

A view of the Organ Mountains from about one-quarter of the way up Tortugas.

The narrow trail along the north side.

A couple of Black-throated sparrows on a yucca.

Yuccas in a very steep grassland.
