Soledad Canyon

Early morning in the canyon
We did an early morning Valentine's Day hike in Soledad Canyon, a high desert canyon (5,500 to 6,500 feet) nestled into the Organ Mountains.  That's right, "Organ" Mountains.  Let your imaginations run wild, but the Spaniards who passed this way called them Sierras de los Organos because of their pipe organ spires.

We did a long loop trail with a lot of elevation gain and loss--good exercise.  The weather was perfect for hiking; halfway through the trek I had to take my anorak off.  Becca never removed her coat.
