Trekking Along the Single-Ttrack

I think it's called Thicksepal Cryptantha
Dr. K, Becca and I did a very long trek on the single-track trail south and east of Tortugas Mountain.  To reach the western trailhead you have to hike the outer loop road clockwise around the mountain for over a mile and then look carefully for the rock cairn that marks the head.  The single-track is a narrow trail meant for use by mountain bikers, but over the years we've encountered very few on it.  Although there were several other outdoor enthusiasts close in to the mountain this morning we didn't run into anybody where we were.  All involved (Dr. K, Becca and me) had an excellent outing in the cool April weather.

What's that look, Dr. K?

Here comes the happy hound

Becca often acts as if she's just spotted a herd of elephants

In the hills south of Tortugas Mountain

Desert sand

Heading east toward the Organs

South of Tortugas Mountain

At the base of the mountain is the trail that circumnavigates it

Long hike following the single-track

Well ahead of the pack

This trail meanders all over the desert

Coming?

If that Mockingbird don't sing
