Hummer Season

Ocotillo blossom and wand
Despite the early start Becca and I got this morning it already felt somewhat toasty here in the northern Chihuahuan Desert.  We're headed for a high of 92F.  On Friday we're supposed to have a temporary cool down lasting for a few days.  Then the heat is on again.  We actually abbreviated our trek a bit this morning because we didn't want to push our endurance level on this first really hot day.  Nonetheless we had a rewarding outing.

I wonder why the ocotillo plant blossoms before it greens out. I'm happy to see that hummingbirds are out and about.
