Research Associate Becca and I didn't plan on hiking to the top of Tortugas Mountain this morning, but it was pleasant--sunny and cool--so we decided to try a new way to the top, up through a draw where there had been a lot of mining activity in the past. The views were outstanding.

In the center of this photo you can barely make out the trail on the Monte Vista side of the mountain.

We discovered these rock crystals where a lot of rocks had been dug out of the ground.

What on earth have we discovered?

High atop Tortugas, the Organ Mountains in the background.
