Hot in the Shade

Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus
Right from the git-go this morning Becca and I knew just how toasty it would feel here in the northern Chihuahuan Desert.  With no breeze even hiking in the mountain's shadow for an extended period of time didn't make it feel any cooler.  I think we're supposed to be 98F today, but it wouldn't surprise me if we slipped over the 100 degree mark.  Despite the heat there were quite a few outdoorsy types enjoying our desert environment today.  Becca and I did a pretty long hike with plenty of shade and water breaks.

Amazing to see that cottontail rabbit stand with its legs on the barrel cactus. Must have pretty tough paws.
