Advance of the Crown

First 2:  similar shots looking south from Geothermal Road
This morning's hike was short and photographs few.  I had a dentist's appointment to have work done on yet another new crown.  Geez, you'd think I'd be a member of the royal family by now.

Dr. K, Willow, Frio and I drove out to Geothermal Road, left Whitey the CR-V at the parking area west of the barriers, and trekked east toward Tortugas Mountain until reaching one of the dirt roads that heads south.  We hiked that road to the intersection with the road that heads back to the west.

Along the way we met Barry and Renee, two super friendly people who I see often in the desert.  This was the first time they met Dr. K and, obviously, Frio and Willow.  Barry and Renee lost their 13-year-old German Shepherd a few months ago, and they were elated to meet our two new dogs.  Renee said she'd been experiencing "petting withdrawal," and she was so happy to pet Willow and Frio, both of whom were only too happy to be petted.  The four humans chatted for a while before parting company. We held the dogs back to let Barry and Renee put some distance between us, and when I released the brake on Frio's retractable lead he practically pulled my right arm out at the socket pursuing them.  For a moment I wondered if he mistook them for Scott and April, his former foster parents.

From the road we were on we had to bushwhack north for a quarter mile or so to get back to Geothermal Road--which he had no problem doing--and then retracing our steps, this time to the west, to reach the CR-V.
