Because of other commitments here at COC Research Associate Becca and I had to take an abbreviated hike this morning. We got off to a rather late start, and the humidity made the discomfort level high. As we hiked out of the Sunset parking lot up to the saddle between the west and east sides of Tortugas Mountain, we took this photo of the hazy Organ Mountains.
Further along the trail on the west side this view of the cloud-crowned Franklin Mountains, 40 miles distant, caught our attention.
This rock--perhaps 4 inches in length--looks like a geode, but I think it's not, although I'm no geologist.
The yellow flowers of the Clinchweed still blanket the desert floor in almost every direction.

It's a nice time of year--it's a bit cooler, but there are still a lot of flowers blooming.
