The air was brisk and clear for us on our Saturday morning sojourn on the Monte Vista side of Tortugas Mountain. The plant growing on this rock outcropping is a Sotol (aka Desert Spoon).
The mountains on the left are the Franklins (outside of El Paso), and the mountains on the right are the Sierra de Juarez (outside of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico). The river crossing between them (the pass that gave El Paso its name) is called El Paso del Rio del Norte.
