Hump Day Bushwhack

We haven't been able to resist the urge to bushwhack of late, getting an up-close and intimate encounter with the Chihuahuan Desert.  It's always a lot of fun to get into some of these really huge arroyos in the outback; the sandy bottoms hold the footprints of desert denizens well, and we can see just how much traffic there is out there.  Of course, walking in sandy arroyos is difficult, akin to walking along an ocean beach.

Where's Becca? (Image 1). I found her--center back--camouflaged as a desert rock! Looks like that large barrel cactus may not be long for the world (Image 5) if it keeps getting undermined.

Right on both counts, Scott. The base of that Barrel Cactus shows damage from last February's brutal freeze. Heavy runoff down that arroyo will hasten the Barrel's demise.

A lot of prickly pear cacti were also damaged by last year's freeze.
