Sailors Take Warning

Red sky at morning
The parking lot at the Sunset Area was completely packed this morning when Becca and I got there, and there were three vehicles parked in the spot where we usually leave our car near the gate at the trailhead.  Not sure what was going on, but we did see quite a few mountain bikers on and about the mountain.  Although the day started off pretty chilly (28F) with a strong breeze, the temperature warmed quickly.  If we had stayed out there longer than the 90 minutes we spent on our trek I would have had to peel some clothing layers off.  I hate doing that because it always gives the jackrabbits such a thrill.
Just west of Tortugas Mountain

Hiking along the trail further west of the mountain

One path up the mountain

Getting into the warming sunshine

Lots of air traffic over our area

Perspective

This way into the high foothills

Three mountain bikers headed up the mountain

The trail gets pretty tough from here on up

Maneuvering through a particularly rugged section of the single-track

Journeying even further west

Contrail sky

On the road again . . .

I just can't wait to get . . .

Can't get over the amount of air traffic this morning

X marks the spot

A statuesque Torrey Yucca

Jets to make fresh contrails

Very sandy section of desert west of the mountain

What a beautiful mixture of shades in the photo of the red sky.
