Lemon Zest

Tried to get yesterday's eclipsed sun's reflection on my old (1998) RAV4. Fail!
Because of recent abundant rainfall Chinchweed is carpeting the desert floor in many locales.  Fortunately, Becca and I pass through these areas almost daily.  The lemony fragrance wafting through the air is nearly strong enough to be mistaken for the scent of lemon zest.  Chinchweed is also called Cinchweed, Limoncillo, and Manzanilla del Coyote.  Limoncillo is not to be confused with the Italian "limoncello," the excellent lemon-flavored liqueur we once sampled in Sorrento, Italy.

Desert Marigold (Baileya) and Trailing Four O'Clock (Allionia incarnata)

A large Hedgehog Cactus

What else?--more Barrel Cactus flowers and buds

Chinchweed (Pectis papposa) blankets the desert floor

Just like the shape of that Prickly Pear Cactus "pear"

I wish we could bottle the aroma of chinchweed so we could enjoy it year-round.
