Long Holy Day Hike

A Desert Millipede
Dr. K, Becca and I did a long hike out of the Monte Vista side of Tortugas Mountain.  It was hot and humid with occasional breezes.  It felt pretty bad for June 5th.  We spotted a millipede on the trail around the south side of the mountain.  These insects can live up to ten years.  They are not poisonous per se, but if you pick them up they do secrete a noxious substance that will irritate your skin.  We saw a few other people out enjoying the desert early, including a woman jogging with her dog.
