Last Night's Rain

Heavy cloud cover this morning
We didn't hear the rain during the night, so we were surprised to discover quite a bit had fallen.  We need it, even though it made for tremendously high humidity this morning.  We ran into Jimmy at the start of our trek, so we hiked together for quite a distance.  When we discussed the widespread failure of flora during the recent drought, he said a biologist friend of his said it was due to bacteria that usually live near the surface receding ever further into the earth, disrupting the normal organic harmony.  Sounds plausible.
