Months ago I felt pretty sad when a mama dove abandoned her nest, leaving behind two unviable eggs. Whether this is the same mama I can't say, but this White-winged Dove has occupied the very same nest for the past month or so, and you can see the results at left. I am constantly and continually amazed by the altruism displayed by mama animals in nature. It really is one of the enduring mysteries in the cycle of life.
Second-last image (of the soaptree yucca blooms against the deep blue sky) is spectacular.
Is the dove brooding at the hacienda, or out in the field?
Near 90 and humid today (Monday)--just a taste of things to come for the northern Piedmont. Our Colorado house probably has a foot of snow on the roof right now!
Thank you, Scott. The dove and kids are in our backyard.
90 degress! Wow. We were 74 today, and we're supposed to be in the mid- to high-60s tomorrow. Yes, parts of Colorado got quite a bit of the white stuff. I heard that Estes Park--north of Denver--had a foot of snow.

Because of the mama dove in our background, we can't do any yard work. We don't want to disturb her.
