Plenty Hot!

Desperate for shade
The temperature this morning was radically different than yesterday.  Yesterday was cool, windy and overcast.  Today was sunny, clear and hot.  We're headed for 93 F, with hotter temps looming on the horizon.  Fortunately we'll be traveling to the high country soon, though I suspect it will even be hot up there.  Surprisingly, for a Tuesday morning, a lot of outdoor enthusiasts were on and about the mountain.  We only ran into one other hiker, though, close in to Tortugas.
It's as hot as it looks

This yucca could "spur" you on

This bush is called Allthorn

I wouldn't want to step in that allthorn bush.

Closeup of that cane cholla flower cluster is spectacular.

Memorial Day was the hottest day so far this year in the northern Piedmont (mid-80s), but we've got a stubborn low pressure system over us now that will bring rain and below normal temperatures for a few days. Then the sun will come back out and evaporate all the water and usher in our typical summer steambath.

I was just thinking this morning that, if the humidity is low in the Colorado foothills where we will move when we retire, I might come to actually enjoy (rather than dread) summer.

Thank you, Scott. Your body won't know how to react to low humidity after a lifetime in high.
