Three-Fourths of the Grand View

This and the next 2:  from our property in the Sacramentos
Even though Dr. K, Becca and I got a very early start on the Grand View Trail this morning it felt quite warm, and after we'd hiked about halfway we began to discuss turning around.  Not only was Becca starting to look pretty hot, but pesky flies were bugging the hell out of all of us.  When you see your dog constantly pawing at her face to keep flies away from her eyes it's time to get out of the elements.

During our trek we encountered only one other person, a guy just starting out when we were almost done with our outing.  Back in Whitey the CR-V we decided to drive down to the trailhead of the new Bridal Veil Falls shortcut trail--officially opened on July 1st--to see if it was already signed.  Not only did it sport two news signs, but two cars were parked in the vicinity of the trailhead.  We probably won't try this new trail until the weather cools significantly.

Great photos of the Black Swallotail Butterfly. It took a lot of patience on your part to get such good photos, Packrat.
