When we were done exploring we crossed the Tellbrook Arroyo and headed up Left Branch to the junction with the right, which we then followed up into the narrow neck at its source. Willow and Frio were off lead all the way up, and just when I put them back on lead in preparation to cross over to the steep hill I spotted a rattlesnake.
The Western Diamondback was not too happy to see us and went into an agitated warning posture, rattling vigorously and semi-coiling. I assured it we meant no harm, stopping to take a few photos and a short video. I know Willow saw the critter, but I don't believe Frio ever did. We had to find an alternate route up the steep hill because the rattler was blocking our path; it was a rugged ascent none of us appreciated very much.

That rattlesnake is so well camouflaged. I'm so glad you heard its rattle and had the dogs on their leads.
