Counterclockwise Circuit

Research Associate Becca and I hiked around Tortugas Mountain this morning. The clouds above the Organ Mountains were ominous when we started out.
We soon came upon this late-bloomer south of the mountain--a strawberry pitaya flower.
Because there has been fairly heavy rain here in the past few days, we discovered this very rare sight in the desert: mud.
At the base of the Organs is the small community of Talavera.

A devil's head (aka horse crippler) is about to bloom.
The clouds at the end of our hike were even more ominous than at the start.
