The desert is usually so peaceful.
Kali and I were hiking in the Voges Mountains in northeastern France some years ago and, as we ascended higher and higher on a trail, we came across signs indicating that we were entering the "quiet zone" where it was expected that you would keep your voice down, not yell for your dog, and certainly not yodel. Ought to be adopted in natural areas in the United States.
Indeed, Scott. Many casual hikers are unaware of how far voices carry in the great outdoors.
