Pre-Provision Day Hike

New growth on a Prickly Pear Cactus pad
It was an incredibly pleasant morning in the Chihuahuan Desert when Becca and I went out for a trek on the west side of Tortugas Mountain.  There were a few vehicles parked in the Sunset
Area lot when we got there, but we saw nobody during our jaunt.  The "provision" mentioned in the blog title refers to nothing more than the supplies I had to pick up later in order to keep things running here at the hacienda.   I timed my errand-running just right as I got back before Dr. K took off, thereby insuring help unloading provisions from the Jeep.

Great timing on the groceries, Packrat. I went to the supermarket early on Saturday morning last weekend; Kali was still sleeping when I got home with the goodies.

Great to see so many flowers already. We've got a few crocuses and snowdrops blooming, but nothing else. We're still nearly 15 degrees below normal. This really is the winter that will never end here.

I hate to shop on Saturday, Scott. Also, I made the mistake (only once) of shopping at Walmart on a weekend morning. What a nightmare. Not nearly as much of a nightmare, though, as that winter you guys are having. Commiserations.

It's nice that the claret cup blooms are popping up.

Down the Mountain
