Fa Caldo, Hace Caliente, It's Hot

How hot the desert is
Dr. K, Willow, Frio and I got an extra early start this morning in an attempt to beat the worst of the heat; we were only partially successful.  The sun was relentless, and we only got the benefit of a breeze right at the very end of the trek.

We saw no other nature enthusiasts out there today, and the critters we spotted were few.  I took 16 photos of the Variegated Meadowhawk dragonfly, who seemed somewhat lethargic in the heat.

We were planning on heading up into the Sacramento Mountains tomorrow, but we changed our plans; it's going to be 95F at our cabin at an elevation of about 7,000 feet.  That's got to be a record high temperature.  Doesn't make much sense to head to the mountains for a respite from the heat when it's going to be damned hot up there.
