Mama Mourning Dove

Mama Dove is probably Papa Dove

What we thought was a White-winged Dove that had built a nest in a low branch of our backyard Desert Willow tree is actually a Mourning Dove.  A little research tells me that the incubation period for Mourning Dove eggs is fourteen days, and that Papa Dove sits on the nest during daytime hours and Mama at nights.  I'm especially worried that our neighbor's cat will make an attempt on the doves, and we're doing our best to look out for their safety.  Hard to protect them round-the-clock, though.

What a beautiful bird. He's smaller than the white doves we usually see (and hear) around here.
