Long Rim Trail Hike

Dr. K, Becca and I did an extra long hike on the Rim Trail in the Sacramento Mountains this morning.  The weather was beautiful, sunny at times, cloudy at others, sometimes cool and even chilly.  We ran into no other outdoor enthusiasts along the way, but twice Becca spooked an elk having breakfast in the forest.  At one point we heard an animal crashing through forest debris below us--a critter I thought might be a bear--but we never got a look at it.  On the way back to the cabin we stopped to buy some produce from a young Mennonite couple who had set up a stand along Highway 82.

Sounds like a perfect mix of weather...and what a cute expression on Becca's face!

Beautiful images, Packrat! Do you know the identity of the red flower (the sixth image, I think), following the Indian paintbrush? It's really unusual.

We could use some alpine coolness, here. It was near 100 degrees the last few days, and the humidity was right up there, too!

I knew you were going to make me do research, Scott. I thought it might be a type of Scarlet Gilia (Skyrocket), but it isn't. I'm working on it.
