Yet Another Grandview Hike

The way down to Alamogordo
After an abbreviated hike on the Osha Trail outside of Cloudcroft on Monday, we've been avoiding trekking in the higher elevations because of the cold.  And, brother, has it been cold.  It was 16 F. when we started off this morning--and that's at about 7,000 feet.  No way do we want to be hiking above 9,000 feet.  So it was one of our longtime old standys, the Grandview Trail.  No mud on the hiking path because the ground was frozen solid.  No other hikers, either, which made for a pleasant morning outing.

As always, Becca was not bothered by the cold.

The image of the road to Alamogordo is vertiginous! It reminds me of the road approaching Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California coming into the park from the west (from central/northern San Diego County)--the route with which I'm most familiar since a significant portion of my extended family lives in that part of San Diego.

We got about 2" of snow yesterday (Saturday), but the forecast calls for a series of increasingly warmer days, so it will be short-lived.

"Vertiginous" is an apt descriptor, Scott. The road from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo drops 4,300 ft. in 16 miles.
