Sunrise Side

Dr. K, Becca and I did a moderately-long hike starting from the Monte Vista side of Tortugas Mountain this morning.  The weather was chilly enough for us to keep jackets on throughout the trek.  We saw only a few distant mountain bikers, but we ran into nobody.  There weren't even any cars in the Monte Vista parking lot when we got back--surprising because it was such a nice morning.  We three had a very nice stroll through the wonderful Chihuahuan Desert.

A beautiful way to begin the week.

Which side of the mountain (north, east, etc.) is the Monte Vista side?

I represented our organization at a community race on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. I set up a table with some native plants and a taxidermied fox, and got a reasonable amount of interest. However, it was FREEZING! The temperature when I got up at 5:45 was 34 and, despite the cloudless skies, it was cold and windy. I was so happy when the whole event was over at 10 a.m. and I could get back into the greenhouse-like warmth of the car to go home.

Monte Vista is on the east side of Tortugas Mountain.

I know that feeling: when you can't wait until you can get into the car where, out of the wind, it seems nice and toasty.
