This and the next 2: Barrel Cactus mandala |
The reason for the strange blog post title stems from our encounter on the trail west of Tortugas Mountain as soon as we got started this morning. Coming in the opposite direction was a woman, her teenage daughter and their dog, Oliver, who the woman could barely control. He was a handsome young guy who was trying his darnedest to get at Becca, who was lying in the "down" position at the side of the trail when they passed. As they did, I said to the woman, "You have a real beauty there." And she replied, "He's quite a handful--as you can see." It was clear they didn't want to stop and chat because it was all she could do to control Ollie. As they went by, the woman kept saying to Oliver, "Leave it--leave it."
After a brief stop at Becca's now-favorite sandy spot in the shade we made our way through the line-workers school grounds and east on Geothermal Road. Looking back I spotted a threesome we've encountered frequently over the years: a husband and wife team with their dog Kaiser. We all waved to each other (not Kaiser and Becca, of course).
Because Becca and I got a really early start we weren't as hot as we might have been had we begun later, but our recent monsoon weather has left a lot of residual moisture in the atmosphere, and it was unpleasantly humid out there today.

I'm glad you and Becca had those two pleasant dog encounters. Nice photos, Packrat.
