August Heat

Several Desert Zinnia bouquets
Our hike today was a standard one that began on a cooler-than-usual morning (67F), and for the first part of the trek it felt pretty good out there.  That changed, however, as Dr. K, Willow, Frio and I began our return to the waiting CR-V after a short shade and water break in Second Arroyo.

A nearly nonexistent breeze disappeared entirely, and the relentless sun beating down through high humidity soon got us broiling in our section of northern Chihuahuan Desert.  We were all happy to reach our vehicle.

Only took a few seconds to fire up the Honda and crank the air conditioning on nearly full blast, which made for a comfortable, yet short, ride home.

A larger bouquet of Desert Zinnia

This and the next 2:  same Soaptree Yucca

This and the next:  Soaptree Yucca with a nest

This and the next 2:  Whitethorn Acacia

This and the last:  small Barrel Cactus with a single bloom
