Another Overcast Morning

Sky at start
This and the next:  Unicorn Plant (Proboscidea althaeifolia)

We got an early start on this fairly heavily overcast Friday morning, happy about the lack of sun, but complaining often about the high humidity.  There was a trace of a breeze, but not enough to shoo away the flies and other "punkies" (a term my father used), sand flies and gnats that kept pestering us as we made our way up to Second Arroyo.

There we stopped for a water break; normally we would have sought shade, but no need this morning.  I explored briefly, searching for interesting subjects to photograph, and I found a few.

We saw two other outdoor enthusiasts today:  a woman runner and her Standard Poodle.  Normally she and her dog return via LDR, but this morning the two came up LDR-A, forcing us to bushwhack into the desert off the road to let them pass; we did that because Willow still hasn't developed manners regarding other dogs.  Interestingly, Dr. K and the woman exchanged waves, but our Heelers never saw them.

Back in the CR-V we all drove down to our small post office to mail a bill, and then it was back home for everyone.

Nice photos of the Unicorn plant flowers. I wonder why it's also called Devil's Claw?
