Week's End

This observatory will eventually be torn out by New Mexico State University
Becca and I got an early start this morning and did a long hike west of Tortugas Mountain.  We ran into JC on our return leg and did a lot of fat chewing while heading back to the car.  He and I discussed (and solved) many of the more complex world issues while Becca performed her usual routine:  using our distraction to get way ahead of the pack, sniffing almost every bush in the desert in order to track down just the right scent.
Down to the lower desert

We got even further away from Tortugas than this

I'm glad you're enjoying the nice weather there, Packrat. I had two back-to-back field trips with my classes this morning. The first field trip started at 8:30 a.m. and it was 10 degrees outside with a wind chill of -8 degrees. Thank goodness it was sunny; that helped. The second field trip started at 11:00 and the temperatures had "moderated" to the upper teens by then, but it was still really cold. I'll write a blog post about the field trip soon.

Really cold again tonight, snow squalls and gale-force winds tomorrow afternoon and evening. Good thing we have a generator at the house now--just in case.

Scott: You're making me shiver just describing those temperatures and wind chills. Looking forward to that blog post.
