Getting to the high foothills |
Becca and I got an early start on the west side of Tortugas Mountain this morning, and we shortened the hike a bit to beat the heat; thing is, though, it didn't feel too awful out there. There was a strong breeze through the first half of our trek, but I'm never sure whether that benefits Becca in any way. It sure helps me with evaporative cooling, though. We had the good fortune of running into our pal Jimmy on the final leg of our outing, and he and I stood talking for a good half hour while Becca lay down in the shade, mostly in the shadow of my body, that is.

What’s a house finch doing in the middle of the desert? Is he lost? 😉
He set up house there.
Becca really does look like she's on the beach. She doesn't like water, so it's a good thing she's actually in the desert.
