We got an early start this morning, hiking the Tortugas Mountain Trail on the east side. The morning light made the mountains look striking, and so we took the opportunity for a few photos. The first shot is of the Organ Mountains, whose organ-pipe spires tower above Dripping Springs Natural Area.
The second photo is of the mountains south of Achenbach Canyon.
Recently, the Las Cruces area has been subject to an invasion of White-lined Sphinx Moth caterpillars, and this may be one; although the larva here is much yellower than those images I've seen on the internet.
The desert floor is incredibly green here; Tortugas Mountain in the background.
The Four Sisters are about to display their finery.
